On November 30, the "challenge" was of clouds. If you claim to have never sat down on a fluffy patch of grass and stare up at the sky to make out the different shapes the clouds were making as a child, you would be lying to yourself. As children we were curious little creatures and always wondered about different things, things that were to complicated for us to understand. But, clouds, clouds was possibly the number one thing I was able to see clearly as a child. Children have active imaginations that most people don't see. Some may think that a cloud up in the sky is nothing but a blob, but to a kid, they can perfectly make out the wings and tail of the dragon they see sculpted above them. Clouds were a major part of our lives when we were young. They tested our creativity and what we believed in. When I think of clouds, I think of two things, my childhood, and the kingdom of God. As a Catholic, we believe that the kingdom of God is directly above us, amongst the clouds watching us down below and protecting us. I believe that the clouds that we see everyday, is a symbol for our faith, along with our childhood that we so desperately need to get a hold of this Advent season.
Now, for December 1. On December 1, the "challenge" was hands. We are currently reading "The Good Thief" by Hannah Tinti, which is about a boy named Ren and his adventurous life after leaving Saint Anthony's Orphanage. Ren had lost his left hand mysteriously and has had to work with one hand for a majority of his life. Can you imagine that? Only having one hand? Impossible! Imagine the struggle you would face. It would be difficult to play sports, carry items, read, to do simple things. However this "little man" manages. We human beings use our hands for everything, they help us through thick and thin. They help carry us up, they comfort us, and they help us help others. Hands are possibly the only thing that help us with everything that we take for granted. This season is about helping others, so use your hands and do that!
