On Catholic Schools Week, we watched a TedTalk by John Lloyd. The video was called,"What's invisible? More than you think". Now, Lloyd talks about gravity, time, atoms, the human genome, thoughts, and stars in day, basically a bunch pf things that matter, but are impossible to explain or even see. Lloyd makes me question a bunch of things, such as "Who are we?", "Why are we here?", "Do we all truly matter?", and finally, "Are we invisible?".
I am an 8th grader getting ready for freshmen year and, even though I have not been on this earth for a very long time, I still have gained bucket loads of both knowledge and experience. I have learned history, at, religion, mathematics, science, and literature. However, the most important thing that I have ever learned, is to be myself and speak up my mind. Like Lloyd, I am (in a way) ignostic, I question the existence of God, seeing that man was the one who translated the Bible. You see, I do not fear that I will be killed for my beliefs for we humnas have gained the right to believe whatever we ant to believe in. So why can't we love whover we want to love?
While further questioning the video, I began to think, "Who are the invisible people in my life? Or better yet, in the world?" You all probably know who I mean, the poor people who sit on the sidewalks that we try very hard not to make eye contact with. You see, the problem is, us human beings try our very best to not get involved with most things, but, there is a major probalem that we do need to get involve with--the right for gay marriage.
Now, I know this is a wild and crazy transition from invisibilty to human rights, but in a way, these two completely different tings are connected. We see gays as a disgrace, that they have a choice and can be rewired, but thats the thing, they are just like us, they are nothing but human beings. Now you can be an atheist or a believer in religion, but no matter what, we all come from the same thing, and we are all created equal. We all have DNA, we all have cells, and we all have 23 pairs of chromosomes. We are equal. By calling someone stupid, you are calling yourself stupid. By calling someone a monster, you are calling yourself a monster. By calling someone invisible, you are saying that you're invisible. We are all connected and we are all equal. Yes, some of us can be unique in different ways but, we all are human beings, which labels us all as equals. Gay marriage should be allowed because it is not someone's fault that they were born that wa. We are not stupid, we are smart. We are not weird, we are amazing. We are not artifical, we are real. Andw ea re not invisible, we are clear.
To conclude my blog, I will leave you with a quote by Dr. Seuss (which is found on the right underneath "Inspirational Quote"). Be who you are and say what you feel. Because those who matter don't mind, and those who mind don't matter. So don't mind, because no matter what, we all do matter anad will never be invisible.
